Fridays with Restorative GriefWe often rise in defense before we even realize it, tightening, bracing, protecting a part of ourselves that feels threatened. Sometimes that part of us is shaped by past loss, a version of ourselves who did what was necessary to survive. That version served a purpose, but holding on too tightly can keep us from connection, understanding, and growth. Take a few minutes today to reflect. Which version of yourself do you instinctively defend in moments of conflict or discomfort? What values guide her, and are they grounded in fear or love? Notice without judgment, and write down any insights that emerge. Consider how your responses might change if you approached these moments with curiosity rather than protection. May your next conversation, with yourself or another, be guided by openness and compassion. Xo, Mandy PS: If journaling feels supportive right now, my book can serve as a quiet companion. It’s something to return to when words feel hard to find. You can learn more here. What am I reading?I’m finally finishing Ruin and Rising, the final book in Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone trilogy. There’s something restorative about fantasy that doesn’t shy away from sacrifice or loss, yet still believes in hope. Watching characters reckon with who they are (and who they’re willing to become) feels especially resonant after grief-heavy days. It’s a reminder that even in imagined worlds, growth is rarely simple, but it is possible. |
