Sitting in the middle of pain with anyone takes a lot of guts. Usually we suck at it. Too caught up in what we might say or trying to encourage them through the tears… we’ll say the thing that sounds good and maybe lessens our own pain, but it only leads to further disconnect.
When we can handle the discomfort of another’s tears, we love like a banner over their wounds. Pressing our heads together, shared tears fall, and worship comes from our lips. We know this moment of intimacy is mirroring the position of Jesus.
This banner of love must be my entire life, no matter the cost. To honor your pain, I will pay the price. My dignity is not for sale, but I’ll freely give it to you if it means you never have to cry alone. I am not your comforter, so don’t hear me wrong. But I can see Him for you, even when you can’t. And He can see us. So that’s all that matters.
May you find a banner of affection waving in the middle of your winds.
